Point Guards

First Off The Bench: Cory Joseph

This summer, the Sacramento Kings were on the hunt to find a veteran point guard to back up De’Aaron Fox. As a result, they were able to acquire Cory Joseph as both parties agreed on a three-year contract worth around $37 million.

For Joseph, he has been in the NBA for eight seasons and has primarily played the backup point guard role for every team he has played for. During his career, he has filled the position to a tee which has resulted in him playing a key part in his teams being able to make the playoffs.

For the Kings, obtaining Joseph was a plus for them. Last season, the Kings did have Yogi Ferrell and Frank Mason III as their facilitators off the bench. But neither of them could play the part consistently.

With Joseph, the Kings do not have to worry about that this season. The man is going to run the offense efficiently while being a pest against his opponents on the defensive side of the ball. He just knows his role and what it takes to be successful at it.

Other Option: Yogi Ferrell

As I mentioned above, Ferrell did play sometimes as the Kings’ backup point guard last year. Overall, Ferrell was able to be a spark for Sacramento on the offensive end but showed inconsistency throughout the campaign.

Although I do not think Ferrell should be Fox’s backup, he should see some minutes from time to time this season. Scenarios, where I see the Kings needing Ferrell, is when they need some instant offense or if one of the Kings’ top two facilitators is unable to play that night.
