Small Forward: Trevor Ariza

This will be one of the bigger question marks on the Sacramento Kings’ roster this upcoming season. The Kings signed an aging Trevor Ariza to a two year, $25 million deal in order to add depth to the wing as well as provide veteran leadership.

Last season, his 15th year in the NBA, Ariza played rather poorly for two underwhelming franchises having been traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards. He shot poorly and was even accused of being disengaged at times. Sacramento hopes that a change of scenery to an up-and-coming team will re-ignite Ariza to the form he had with the Houston Rockets just two seasons ago.

He is a reliable shooter from beyond the arc and is a formidable defender at multiple positions. Having played 28% of his minutes at power forward last season, Ariza will be a useful tool when the Kings decide to go small.

Ariza is not a nightly threat to gameplan against, but the Kings do not need him to be given the talent that surrounds him. They need him for leadership and consistency. Couple that with the fact that he can score 20+ on any given night, Ariza might just end up being an essential piece to the Kings’ rotation.
