Sacramento Kings: 7 Free Agents To Keep An Eye On
By Gurjus Singh
Even though the Sacramento Kings are pretty much done with free agency, here are seven players that Vlade Divac and company should still keep an eye on.
The Sacramento Kings have agreed to deals with five free agents so far in Trevor Ariza, Harrison Barnes, Dewayne Dedmon, Richuan Holmes, and Cory Joseph. With that being said, here are some players that are still available that I think Vlade Divac should look at on a cheap deal.
Ryan Anderson
At one point in his career, Ryan Anderson was a bonafide scorer as he averaged almost 20 points a game in 2014. But in the last few years, Anderson has dipped and especially had a poor season this last year with the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat. Even with Anderson being passed his prime, the Kings should still consider him as a reserve-role option. He may not even break the regular rotation but would make the team even deeper than it already is.
Jonathan Simmons
Jonathan Simmons would not provide much on the offensive side of the ball but would be a help on defense. The small forward position is still pretty thin for the Kings, and adding Simmons would bolster it up while adding more defense to the team.
Ian Clark
Another guard, but Ian Clark has had playoff experience being with the Golden State Warriors from 2015-2017. He also was a teammate of Harrison Barnes as well. Again, this would be a good move just to add more depth to an already deep team. Clark may not bring much offensively but could be a possible asset defensively.
Corey Brewer
Bringing Corey Brewer back for next season would add more depth to the forward positions. Plus with Brewer already having 24 games as a King under his belt, he would not have any trouble trying to gain chemistry with the players already on the team. Also, the team and fans already know what they are getting with Brewer if he does come back.
Kenneth Faried
Kenneth Faried went from a coveted forward in the NBA to being someone who is now having trouble finding a new home. If the Kings were to get him for cheap, it would add more energy to the squad while also improving the team’s rebounding. Last year when he signed late in the season with the Houston Rockets, he averaged around 13 points and eight rebounds in 25 games.
Iman Shumpert
At the age of 29, Iman Shumpert would be a big help for the Kings on the bench and in the locker room. Basically what he did last season when he was with the purple and white.
Iman was involved in introducing the “Scores” term because of how easy the team was scoring the ball due to their fast-paced offense. He could help with the locker room again but on a cheap deal. His role on the team would be smaller, but he could still give the Kings a handful of great games throughout the season.
Thabo Sefolosha
Thabo Sefolosha would add another shooter to the Kings but also be a defensive presence. He is 35 years of age now, so there may not be much left in the tank if he did come to Sacramento. In his recent season with the Utah Jazz, he averaged around four points a game and shot an efficient 44% from beyond the arc.
