With an important offseason ahead of them, the Sacramento Kings make a smart move in hiring Joe Dumars to their organization.

In a year when the Sacramento Kings need to make some noise in the free agent market, they announced the hiring of Joe Dumars to be a special adviser to general manager Vlade Divac.

With a wealth of wisdom for Divac to draw from is good news. Dumars has 13 years of experience as the President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons. Also, he has 14 years as a player along with two titles playing for the franchise.

Why Dumars Is An Asset?

Dumars has had massive experience and a ton of connections within the NBA world. This is a nice bridge to build relationships with agents representing players who are on the market.

Agents who have had bad experiences with Sacramento in the past would steer their players away from the Kings. But Dumars’ reputation could be the difference maker in getting a player this summer.

Dumars Is Perfect For Vlade

Joe Dumars has achieved a lot both as a player and front-office guy. Vlade can and will use Dumars to help ease the heavy workload that he has ahead of him this summer.

Scott Perry was the last great front office hire for Sacramento, but he only lasted less than a month before being offered the General Manager job for the New York Knicks.

Let us hope Sacramento gets to keep Dumars as we need all the smart people making decisions in the next couple of months.

Final Thoughts

This is a smart and professional move to shore up the front office. There is a lot for the Kings to do this summer to make a run at the playoffs. The West is still stacked with talented teams that the Kings must beat to end the postseason drought.

Welcome to Sacramento, Joe, and hope your tenure here is great!
