The Sacramento Kings selected Kyle Guy with the 55th Pick in the draft, and while it wasn’t a bad pick, there’s a few players they should’ve picked instead.

Kyle Guy wasn’t a bad draft pick, in fact, he was probably the best of the night for the Kings but with some incredible players left on the board, the Sacramento Kings could’ve done better.

Things didn’t go as we expected them to for the Sacramento Kings on draft night. With three second round picks and a bevy of talented players left on the board, they selected three players who were likely to go un-drafted — and even sold the 47th overall pick to the New York Knicks for nothing.

In all, the Kings ended up with Justin James (40th), Kyle Guy (55th) and Vanja Marinkovic (60th). None of those players were ranked inside the top-60 prospects by ESPN, and Marinkovic was ranked outside the top-100. It also doesn’t help that all three are shooting guards — a position the Kings are loaded at.

This isn’t to say none of those players are bad players, or that they don’t deserve a shot in the NBA. In fact, Kyle Guy could be a fantastic pickup and could have a nice, length career as a three-point specialist. The other two, while not likely to become stars or starters, have their own unique skill-sets that give them some intrigue.

Still, the Kings left a multitude of players with higher ceilings and more potential to contribute to a winning team immediately, and there’s three incredible talents the Kings should have drafted ahead of Kyle Guy at 55th overall. Especially since Guy was likely to be available at pick no. 60.
