The Sacramento Kings added more depth to the shooting guard position as they selected Justin James with the 40th pick in the NBA Draft.

After 39 players were selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings were finally on the clock at the 40th spot. With that pick, Vlade Divac chose Justin James from the University of Wyoming.

Who Is Justin James?

For the last four years, James has been with the Wyoming basketball program. During his tenure with the team, he averaged around 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists per contest and made around 44% of his shots from the floor, 34% of his three-pointers, and 73% of his free throws.

In his most recent season with the Cowboys, James averaged around 22 points, nine rebounds, and four assists a game and made around 41% from the floor, 30% from the perimeter, and 74% from the charity stripe.

With this pick, the Kings are getting a guy who was a bonafide scorer during his collegiate tenure. Offensively, he was good at moving without the ball in his hands and drawing fouls when driving to the basket. Defensively, he was a great rebounder for his position and used his athleticism to show flashes of being a solid defender down the road.

Final Thoughts

It is unknown right now whether the production James showcased with Wyoming will translate to the NBA level. But if so, he could be a solid young piece that the Kings can bank on for the future.
