Final Thoughts On Guy

Sacramento has held 16 draft workouts, Kyle Guy being present in one of those workouts. Vlade Divac and Luke Walton have done their due diligence so far. Hopefully, the work they have put in gives them at least one good player from the draft, and I think Guy could be that guy.

If you only looked at Kyle’s physical traits, you would pass him over. He still might not get drafted by any team, but Guy is a good example of a player who has a chip on his shoulder and the smarts to beat the odds.

Guy could be a Jeremy Lin story coming out of the G-League to get his chance in the NBA and take the league by storm. There are other players like Guy who might not get drafted but could be a good fit for an NBA team. The last pick is worth taking a gamble on your gut instincts, not on stats.

Conclusion On Vlade

Divac acts like he wants to find NBA-quality guys in the late second round. The Kings gave up assets to acquire those picks, so hopefully, they turn those guys into assets now or down the road.

The front office is going with the plan to develop their own players and add key pieces through free agency. The San Antonio Spurs are masters at this game plan. Divac might prove how well he listened to or copied the great Gregg Popovich. It is well known they are friends.

This is my assumption, but the Spurs have shown developing your own players is good for small-market teams. If Divac finds one contributing player to help the team this year, that would go a long way in proving his worth for the new contract along with the playoff drive.

Regardless of who coaches or who the Kings add over the summer, reaching the playoffs is the only option for Kings’ owner Vivek Ranadive to be satisfied. Vlade is using every option to reach his and the team’s goals.
