With multiple second-round picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings need to make sure they are doing their research.

With the Sacramento Kings owning a plethora of second-round draft picks, finding a gem will take a lot of work from smart people behind the scenes. Right now, the purple and white have the 40th, 47th, and 60th picks in the draft. That is three chances to find a player good enough to earn a coveted roster spot for next year and beyond.

For the Kings, the expectations are higher than ever. They were one of the biggest surprises this NBA season as they exceeded their projected win total prior to the year beginning. The 25 wins that most expected from them actually resulted in a 39-43 record while being just one spot away from competing in the postseason.

Now that the goal is playoffs or bust for Sacramento, they still need to enhance their roster to increase their chances of achieving their goal. The journey starts with next week’s NBA Draft.

Since the offseason has started, I have been looking for a possible gem that the Kings could select with the last pick in the draft. When Isaiah Thomas was selected in 2011 with the last pick, no one predicted him to eventually turn into a multiple All-Star.

Being the 60th pick tells a player that he has a disadvantage starting his NBA journey. Since 2011, only Kosta Antetokounmpo with the Dallas Mavericks, Tyrone Wallace with the Los Angeles Clippers, and Robert Sacre with the Los Angeles Lakers have made a roster while holding the label as Mr. Irrelevant.

Hopefully, that list extends with the Kings having the last pick this year. But who will be the guy they select?
