Sacramento Kings: 3 Reasons To Give Tobias Harris The Max
By Rafe Wong
With the Sacramento Kings being possible suitors for Tobias Harris in free agency, here are three reasons why Vlade Divac and company should offer him the supermax.
The Sacramento Kings took a major step of improvement this season as they finished their campaign with a 39-43 record while being just one spot short of a playoff berth in the stacked Western Conference.
Now that the Kings are out of the NBA basement, the next step for them is figuring out how to make the postseason next year. Now going forward into their rebuild, it is playoffs or bust for the purple and white.
This offseason will be crucial for the Kings. Right now, their roster is not strong enough to guarantee them a playoff spot for next season. In order for the Kings to bolster their personnel, they need to do well in the upcoming NBA Draft and free agency periods. But with the Kings having no first-round pick in the draft, it does limit their chances of acquiring assets in the event. So free agency will be key.
With the Kings being a small-market team, they have not been able to attract the star-caliber talents that have been available in previous summers. But with the team on the rise behind their young talent, plus having the ability to pay a player a supermax contract, times have changed.
Not too long ago, Keith Pompey from the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Kings will be targeting forward Tobias Harris this summer. This past year, Harris played a significant part in the successes of both the Los Angles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers’ seasons.
Harris is due to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, giving him full liberty to choose the next chapter of his NBA career. If the Kings want to persuade Harris to join their team going forward, offering him the max seems certain.
