Sacramento has no first round pick this year. The Kings must improve with free agents.

There are two kinds of free agents, the free agents who the Kings want to get and free agents  the Sacramento Kings stand a chance to get — that is the reality for Vlade Divac this summer. With the team’s 2019 first round pick going to the Boston Celtics as a result of the 2015 Kings-Philadelphia 76ers trade, free agent are the only way to improve the 2019-20 Sacramento Kings.

The first area the Kings team should look to improve at is back-up point guard. De’Aaron Fox is the starter for the foreseeable future and much (or little) as Yogi Ferrell and Frank Mason III brought to the table last year, Sacramento needs a reliable back up who brings a different skillset.

Frank Mason and Yogi Ferrell play the same game and the purple and white need to mix it up with different lineups.

The Kings have about $37 million in cap space, which is enough to land one big name free agent or several mid-tier ones. History has shown Sacramento doesn’t always land marquee free agents, so it’ll be a summer of chasing mid-tier/lower-level free agent point guards for the Kings this season, especially if they sink big money into a starting center like Nikola Vucevic.
