With Sacramento Kings’ Harry Giles showing some promise in his rookie season, is it good enough for him to earn All-NBA Rookie honors in his rookie class?
To have better clarity of this question, let us dissect the All-NBA Rookie teams. A total of 10 rookies in the NBA are granted this honor every season, as there is an All-NBA Rookie First team and an All-NBA Rookie Second team. In each team, only one player from each basketball position is given the award. So for Harry Giles to become an All-NBA Rookie, he needs to either be a top two center or power forward in his class.
Is Harry Giles An NBA All-Rookie?
Sorry, Kings fans. But Harry Giles is most likely not going to be granted a spot on the All-NBA Rookie teams. In my opinion, big men like Deandre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr., Wendall Carter, and of course, Marvin Bagley III clearly had better rookie campaigns than Giles.
I also think other guys who play Giles’ position like Mitchell Robinson and Kevin Knox might have the edge over the former Duke Blue Devil as they recorded better numbers than him and had bigger roles on their respective teams.
Final Thoughts
For the season, 58 games, Harry Giles averaged around seven points, four rebounds, and two assists per contest while making over 50% of his shot attempts from the floor. Not a bad season at all for the young king, considering he was given little playing time, but it is still not enough for him to be considered an All-NBA Rookie.
Hopefully, Giles does not get discouraged if he is not granted a spot on the All-NBA Rookie list. And instead, uses it as motivation to have himself one heck of a sophomore year. The talent is there, and the guy has a great work ethic. In time, Harry will show the world why he was ranked as the top prospect in his high school class.
