While it is too early to pass judgment, the Sacramento Kings have to do a better job at addressing the Luke Walton lawsuit.

No one can or should take sides and say they know who or what the truth is at this moment.  But with that being said, the Sacramento Kings must do better than the “we are aware of the report and are gathering additional information” approach.

What Do The Kings Need To Do?

Throughout the years, people have supported the purple and white and paid good money towards them. The Kings are obligated to return the favor. This does not mean they have to pay the money back to their fans, but rather they need to do a better job than just giving them the standard public relations statement that is nothing more than a copy and paste that has been used a million times.

For the past two years, Vivek Ranadive and Vlade Divac have emphasized how high character is a priority when hiring people into their organization, for the hope that it would change the culture of the franchise. They need to continue to stress that notion going forward.

Honestly, it would be better for the Kings to say nothing than to tell us that they are gathering information. We already know that. The public wants to know whether their team will get to the bottom of the situation and then take the right steps to make sure the ethical thing is done once the truth is clear.

I hope the truth comes out sooner rather than later, as there are people’s reputations and lives that are in stake. It is tragic regardless of how it turns out and no one wins. But it must be dealt with in a smart and compassionate way.
