Sacramento Kings: Addressing The Willie Cauley-Stein Situation
By John Kelly
Final Thoughts On Willie’s Future In Sacramento
If I was a betting man, which I am. I would say the market for Willie will be a contract worth $15 million a season for a duration of three to four years. The Kings will decline to match those offers and will wish him luck on the rest of his career.
For the Kings, a huge need for them is finding a reliable big man for their rotation, preferably one that can rebound and block shots frequently. Based on Willie’s track record, he just has not shown the consistency to be that guy for the Kings. Sure, he shows flashes of it, but on the other hand, he has been a liability for the team in critical games.
Free agents that I believe could fill the hole at center for Sacramento are DeAndre Jordan and Nikola Vucecic. We will see whether those guys are heavily targeted by Vlade Divac and company.
Overall, Willie has had an interesting tenure with the Sacramento Kings, but I feel like his days repping the purple and white are done. Hopefully, he is able to “get paid” and become an asset for a team. I just do not think that team will be the Sacramento Kings.
