The Sacramento Kings and Vlade Divac have made some questionable decisions as of late. But let us not forget why he is in Sacramento in the first place.

So… let us talk about Vlade Divac.

The former Sacramento Kings legend has been the franchise’s Vice President of Basketball Operations since 2015, and throughout his tenure, has gone through ups and downs. Today, another tough decision was laid down by Divac as he decided to relieve Dave Joerger from his head coaching duties, leaving the NBA community in shock.

This was no doubt a controversial move by Vlade. Even though Joerger did not make the playoffs in either of his three seasons coaching the team, he did just conclude the best season (record 39-43) that the Kings have had in over 15 years.

Right now, it is too early to say whether Divac got this move right or wrong. But one thing certain is that Divac is trying to do what is best for the franchise.

Divac’s Motive(s)

Although the Kings are not a playoff team yet, and it is still up in the air whether they will be in the near future, the franchise and their fans should still be encouraged that they have a guy like Divac making the decisions for their team.

When Divac took the VP role back in 2015, he had one mission: Bring a championship to Sacramento. For Divac, there is unfinished business. Unfortunately, Divac was unable to win a championship back when he was playing for the Kings but is trying to do it now as a member of the front office.

For Divac, being the VP for the Kings is not an attempt to further his career within the NBA, or an attempt to gain power, or even to collect checks. No, it is solely based on his pursuit to give the Kings the championship that he believes they deserve.

Final Thoughts

To be honest, I did not love this recent decision by Vlade as I thought Dave Joerger was a huge reason why the Kings are now an up and coming team going forward. But in the past, Divac has made some risky moves that seemed crazy at the time but eventually panned out in his favor.

I am going to be patient with Divac this time to see what he has cooked up for the Kings. Because bottom line, the only thing he is focused on is getting that ring for Sacramento.

Does the luckiest man on earth have another victory in him? Let us hope he does.
