Now that the head coaching position for the Sacramento Kings is available, who will take the reigns going into next season?
The Sacramento Kings stirred up the NBA world today as it has been reported that they fired their head coach in Dave Joerger. For the last three years, Joerger has been the leader for Sacramento and is coming off the Kings’ best season in 13 years.
Now that the head coaching spot is vacant, who are the Kings now looking at to fill the void?
Let Us Look At The Candidates
Hours after Joerger was dismissed, speculations started to rise on who would be the Kings’ next coach. Names that have surfaced are Ettore Messina, Monty Williams, and Luke Walton. But according to Sam Amick, a writer for The Athletic, Walton seems like the favorite to get the job.
Who Is Luke Walton?
For the last three years, Walton has served as the head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. During that span, he has recorded a record of 98-148 and has missed the playoffs in every year.
When studying Walton’s philosophy, it does fit the mesh of what the Kings are trying to do. Walton is a proponent of wanting to play fast-paced basketball while trying to get shooters involved in the offense. So if he were to be hired by the Kings, it would an easy transition for both parties in terms of the style of play.
Final Thoughts
Let us get this out of the way. Luke Walton is still technically the head coach for the Lakers. But it is speculated that he will be let go of the position in the near future.
But with that said, the possibility of the Kings hiring Walton does not seem to entice Kings fans. So if this move were to be made by Vlade Divac, he will receive blowback in return.
This offseason for the Kings is already off to a wild start. I am assuming more madness to happen in the upcoming months.
