The Sacramento Kings are on a mission to make the playoffs for the first time in 12 years. But the chances of that happening are not in their favor.

The Sacramento Kings have been one of the pleasant surprises this NBA season. With many believing the purple and white would be in the basement of the league at this point of the year, their 33-33 record has them as the ninth seed in the competitive Western Conference, putting them just one spot outside of playoff contention.

Even though there is hope that the Kings can break their 12-year postseason drought, the chances of that happening this season are low. Currently, the Kings are four games back from the current eighth seed which is the San Antonio Spurs. And with Sacramento having 17 games left in their regular season, San Antonio has 16 games left, time is running out for the Kings to catch up.

Also, most likely, it would be a pretty historic moment if the Kings were to qualify for the playoffs this season. The team they would probably knock out of the current seedings is the Spurs, so not only would Sacramento be breaking their 12-year playoff drought, longest current postseason drought in the NBA, but they would be breaking San Antonio’s 21-year playoff streak which is the longest current postseason streak.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the chances of the Kings competing in the playoffs this year are slim. They just have a lot of ground to make up in so little time and are going up against teams that know what it takes to make the playoffs.

Hopefully, I am wrong and the Kings can make a late-season rally to make the playoff conversation more interesting. I mean, Sacramento has already exceeded their expectations this year, so they are comfortable already with being doubted.
