Sacramento Kings: Three storylines to follow on Saturday
Harry Giles has been balling since Bagley went down, can he keep it up?
Over his last four games, Harry Giles is averaging 14 points, 5.8 rebounds and two assists on 59 percent shooting from the floor. He’s also posting a usage percentage north of 27 and is posting a better rebounding percentage than Willie Cauley-Stein over the last four as well.
Arguably Giles’ best performance over this stretch came against the Knicks as well, where he posted 17 points on 7-9 shooting to go with seven rebounds and two assists in just 22 minutes off the bench. It’ll be interesting to see if Giles can build off that while playing New York for the second time in three games.
Even more interesting, perhaps, will be to see whether Giles will be able to respond positively after a tough outing against the Boston Celtics. While Giles’ passing ability and defense certainly showed up to viewers, his scoring took a hit — even though he was a +2 in a game that ended in a two point loss for the Sacramento Kings.
In 21 minutes of play on Wednesday against Boston, Giles went 2-7 from the floor, scoring just six points and grabbing only four rebounds. Throughout his rookie year, Giles has often failed to follow-up on big games and hasn’t responded well to poor ones either. Now that he has a string of several strong performances under his belt and coming off a rough game to play one of the leagues bottom-feeding teams, fans should keep a close eye out to see if that changes now that Giles has gained some confidence.
Furthermore, the Giles and Bagley pairing has been largely unsuccessful thus far as well, and while that’s likely due to very limited playing time with each other, it’ll be curious to see if anything changes in that regard as well.
