With the NBA announcing this year’s Hall of Fame finalists shortly, does Sacramento Kings great Chris Webber deserve a spot on the list?
The Sacramento Kings have been a pleasure to watch this season. Currently, they hold a record of 30-27 and are tied for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. For the first time in over a decade, the team and their fans truly believe that they have a future contender in the making.
The last time the Kings community thought their squad had a chance of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy was back when Chris Webber was the star of the show. During that era, the Kings were an unstoppable squad as they showcased fabulous basketball through teamwork and unselfishness.
Webber overall had an outstanding basketball career. In 15 seasons, he averaged around 21 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists per contest while shooting around 48% from the floor. During his seven seasons with the Kings, he averaged around 24 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists a game while making 47% of his shots from the court.
For the last three years, Webber has been eligible for the Hall of Fame but unfortunately has not made the final cut. With the NBA announcing the finalists for 2019 Hall of Fame class tomorrow, will Webber make the list? Or even better, should he get a spot in the Hall of Fame this year?
My Opinion
Yes, yes, a million times YES! Chris Webber not only should secure a spot in tomorrow’s list of finalists, but he should belong in the Hall of Fame this year. As a big man, he was the jack of all trades as he could dominant opponents through his scoring and passing ability while being an asset on the defensive end.
Not only was the five-time All-Star considered one of the best and versatile forwards in his era, but he played a significant part in revitalizing the Sacramento Kings into not just a playoff team but a legit contender for the championship.
Overall, it is crazy to think that Webber has been passed on three times for the Hall of Fame already. And in my opinion, it would be considered a major snub if he was passed on again this year.
Hopefully, that is not the case. And the Kings and their fans will have the chance to see their beloved star when he makes his Hall of Fame speech THIS year.
