In the year of 2019, the Sacramento Kings mean business and the goal is to reach the playoffs.

Every team in the NBA starts their campaign saying their goal is to reach the playoffs and win an NBA title. Only a handful of clubs have a real chance at achieving that goal. With the Sacramento Kings currently holding the longest playoff drought in the league at 12 years, they obviously are looking to end that notorious streak.

The Kings have turned the corner

Prior to the season, Dave Joerger said the team development within his squad was not as far along as he hoped for before the season began. The media and NBA experts must have bought it as most predicted Sacramento to win around 25 games this season. Only the Atlanta Hawks were predicted to win fewer games.

At the moment the purple and white are holding the ninth seed in the Western Conference with 37 games into the season. With the rise of De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield, it has caused opponent’s defenses to scramble when guarding the potent backcourt threat. Willie Cauley-Stein also is proving he is worth a look at getting another contract with Sacramento as he is averaging 14 points,  8.5 rebounds a game. Also, consider that the Kings still have young guys like Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley III, this is a pretty solid foundation that Vlade Divac has cooked up for the Sacramento franchise.

The future is bright for Sacramento

The Kings are the feel-good story of the NBA this year as they are still in the conversation for a playoff berth. The future stands to only get better as the young guys will continue to improve on their individual play as well as team chemistry with one another.

Everyone in the organization wants to be part of something special going forward. If the Kings keep the same personnel and implement the same offseason workout plan, then the team should have a good shot in becoming a competitive force for years to come. The Kings are a thrill to watch this year with next year promising to be even better. In my opinion, they are just a few smart moves away to getting back to their winning ways.
