Ferrell’s steals per game has declined from his first year, but only by .1, not exactly a huge drop off. He averaged 0.8 steals per game last season and the Sacramento Kings should look for him to up that to an even 1.0 per game.

The Kings were an unmitigated disaster defensively last season and even as small of a thing as one steal per game could make a big difference. It could be an even bigger difference-maker if it allows the Kings to get out and run in transition, something this roster is primed to do.

Playing with the reserves should give Ferrell a chance to pick on the second-unit of the opposing team, and he did average over a steal per contest (1.1) in his first stint in Dallas in 2016-17.

If he’s able to pick off one or two passes per game and give the Kings easy fast-break buckets Sacramento could see a dramatic increase in offensive output if he and the rest of the team can make those plays. Yogi Ferrell might not be an offensive focal point when it comes to scoring, but he’s likely to be the one initiating the offense and if he’s able to be disruptive defensively, he could run the offense at a much quicker pace and with more efficiency.
