Sacramento Kings 2nd-year Guard Frank Mason III will be in Las Vegas, Nevada this week (Sept. 6) for the team USA basketball qualifying training camp.

The training camp will be used to evaluate the roster determine the final 12-man roster for the second-segment of the FIBA World Cup. Team USA will be facing off against Uraguay on Sept. 14 (tip-off set for 7 p.m.) in Las Vegas before traveling to Panama City to play Panama on Sept. 17.

Team USA currently has a 5-1 record through the first portion of group play, taking first place in Group C. Team USA is looking for another win at the FIBA Americup after going 5-0 and winning gold in 2017.

Mason III will be joining 13 other players vying for 12 spots in training camp. Rounding out the rest of the training camp roster is: Reggie Hearn, Jameel Warney, Bryce Alford, Dwayne Bacon, V. J. Beachum, Jordan Crawford, Henry Ellenson, Isaiah Hicks, Dakari Johnson, Ben Moore, Chasson Randle, Travis Tryce and Derrick White.

Frank Mason should be in a good spot to make the roster provided he can perform at a high-level during training camp. Mason III is one of just 5 NBA players at camp, with the rest of the roster playing in the NBA’s G-League and 1 player coming over from Australia.

At the very least, some extra time playing competitive basketball at a high-level will be good for FM3 heading into the Kings training camp. Mason III is looking at a steep climb to regain the role he had last season after Sacramento added another point guard in Yogi Ferrell.

Should he make the Team USA roster, it could go a long way towards getting him ready to go early in the year. He still may not play over Yogi Ferrell, but he could still provide significant minutes as a spark-plug off of the bench.  If he fails to make the roster, however, it could light a fire under him heading into the year, giving him some extra motivation.

Frank Mason III is coming off of a season where he averaged 7.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 18.9 minutes a night over 52 games.
