The Sacramento Kings have signed Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way contract which will have him with the organization for the 2018-2019 season.

The Sacramento Kings have added another player to their roster as it was reported by David Aldridge, NBA reporter, that the purple and white have signed Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way contract. For the last two years, Gabriel was a member of the Kentucky Wildcats where he was a player in John Calipari’s main rotation.

During Gabriel’s time in Lexington, 75 games, he averaged 5.7 points and 5.1 rebounds a contest while shooting 42.6% from the court and 36.7% from beyond the arc.

My Thoughts

It is no surprise that the Kings used one of their two-way contracts on someone who played for their summer league team. It gave Vlade Divac and company a full analysis on the former Wildcat.

For Gabriel, he was able to participate in both the summer league in Sacramento and the one in Las Vegas. During that span, eight games, he averaged 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds a game while shooting 39.4% from the floor and 30.8% from the three-point line.

Due to Marvin Bagley III and Harry Giles starting for the Kings, Gabriel did not get a lot of playing time to prove himself to the world. But he did flash his potential against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he scored 15 points.

Overall, there is a good chance Gabriel will not play much for the Kings this season as he will spend most of his time with the Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G-Leauge affiliate. But he is a young player, 21 years of age, who is athletic and has a nice shooting stroke.

If Gabriel is able to thrive in Stockton, he could be a potential asset for the Kings down the road. To me, a good risk to take for Vlade considering Gabriel will only be on a two-way contract.
