Trading Garrett Temple

Today the Kings traded longtime fan favorite Garrett Temple to the Memphis Grizzlies for former King Ben McLemore, Deyonta Davis, a 2021 second-round pick, and (Vlade’s new favorite) cash considerations.

When the trade was dropped via Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter, Kings Twitter went into a meltdown. Temple was probably the most beloved player on the Kings roster amongst the team’s fanbase. He made immeasurable contributions to the Sacramento community and the Kings’ locker room. He was a tremendous leader and his presence will be missed.

But the trade, in my opinion, was a win for all parties. The Kings acquired a future pick and more cap space, the Grizzlies got a proven role player–Temple will most likely play more in Memphis, and McLemore and Davis will get fresh starts in Sacramento or possibly elsewhere.
