Sacramento Kings number two overall draft pick Marvin Bagley III suffered a pelvic bone bruise on July 7 and will miss the remainder of summer league.
Sacramento Kings prized draft selection Marvin Bagley III was injured in Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. He exited during the fourth quarter and did not play on Sunday as a result. The news got worse after Monday’s MRI, though.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee sent out this Tweet updating the injury on Monday evening.
Good/bad news
Injury updates like this one are both positive and negative. It is not serious, and Bagley III will not miss significant time which is always a plus. A 19 year old missing all but one game of the Las Vegas Summer League is never a positive, though. MB3 did not look great in his only game. Summer league is valuable time on the court adjusting to the faster paced NBA, and he will miss that.
Bagley III should be ready for his first training camp. It will be worth monitoring the progress he makes before that time.

Worry going forward?
Bone bruises can be nasty injuries that flare back up if not rested properly. Expect the Kings to take a conservative approach with Bagley III. It is slightly worrying going forward that he went down on a routine play in his fourth summer league game. Hopefully, this injury is not a sign of things to come for the young MB3.
Final thoughts
Sacramento Kings rookie Marvin Bagley III will miss the rest of summer league with a pelvic bone bruise. That injury sounds painful, so wishing MB3 a speedy recovery.
It is worth monitoring Bagley III’s playing time early in the coming season. The Kings and Coach Joerger love to make rookies earn their minutes and with no shortage of frontcourt options that could spell trouble for him. It will be a mistake if Sacramento is playing Zach Randolph and Kosta Koufos more minutes than MB3, but do not let it surprise you early on.
Marvin Bagley III needs a lot of work on the defensive end, and game action will be critical to improving in that area. Stay tuned to see how it shakes out.
