Former Sacramento Kings small forward and UCLA star, Tyler Honeycutt was found dead after a standoff with Los Angeles police early Saturday morning.
Tyler Honeycutt, who played small forward for the Sacramento Kings for parts of two seasons was found dead early Saturday morning after a lengthy standoff with police.
According to KABC-TV, Los Angeles, Honeycutt’s mother called the police to tell them her son was “acting erratically”. Tyler Honeycutt then barricaded himself inside his residence in Sherman Oaks, California at around 5 p.m. local time according to authorities.
When authorities arrived on the scene, Honeycutt then reportedly fired at first responders, who returned fire. Following a prolonged standoff, SWAT teams entered the residence at around 3:30 a.m. local time.
Per the Los Angeles Police Department’s official Twitter feed (@LAPDHQ) Tyler Honeycutt was found dead inside the residence shortly before 4 a.m. local time.

LAPD also said he suffered injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, though no official cause of death has been released.
LAPD has yet to confirm Tyler Honeycutt’s death, as well as providing no further information as this is still an active investigation.
NBA Career
Honeycutt appeared in 24 games for the Sacramento Kings over the course of two NBA seasons. He was the 35th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Kings. He was only 27 years old.
Following his time in Sacramento, he was traded to Houston but never suited up for them. Since his NBA career ended, Honeycutt has played professionally overseas in Israel, Turkey and Russia.
His head coach with BC Khimiki in Moscow, Russia told reporters, “I’m sorry I cannot talk right now, I am really sad”, per Victor Lavagnini on Twitter.
