With the California Summer Classic over for the Sacramento Kings, there are more concerns about the team than expected.

When the California Summer Classic began, I was ecstatic as a Sacramento Kings fans because I expected the purple and white to succeed. I mean, the Kings’ roster looked like the most talented group of guys out of the four teams competing in the league. And in my opinion, talent triumphs team chemistry when it pertains to summer league.

Although the group of young Kings was able to showcase flashes of their exciting potential, this last week was a failure for them overall. After three games, the team finished with a record of 1-2 and had a point differential of -22 against their opponents.

Not only were the Kings unable to win much in the summer classic, but the players that Sacramento fans hoped would dominate the league performed inconsistently.

Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley III failed to be the elite scorers I envisioned them being. Justin Jackson had two nice games overall but was a total flop in the opener. And Frank Mason III was inconsistent scoring the ball even though he was the main facilitator in the last two games.

The only consistent and dominant player for Sacramento was De’Aaron Fox, but he only played one game…

Final Thoughts

My theory on summer league is that if a player has success or even dominates the competition, then it means nothing when it comes to their NBA faith. But if one constantly shows struggles during the summer games, concerns about whether they can produce sinks in.

I still believe the Kings got a nice group of young talent, but this Calfironia Summer Classic showed that they still have a long way to go before the Sacramento Kings can create some havoc in the regular season. Hopefully, the young guys can prove me wrong in the next couple of weeks as they will compete in their second summer league which is located in the Las Vegas.
