With the report out that Garrett Temple has opted to play for the Sacramento Kings one more season, how does it impact the team’s roster going forward?

Not too long ago, the news came out that Garrett Temple has opted into the final year on his contract which means he will be with the Sacramento Kings during the 2018-2019 season. According to Spotrac, Temple is due to make $8 million this upcoming year.

Opinion

With Temple now officially with the Kings, it gives Dave Joerger flexibility on his depth chart.  Temple brings needed versatility as he can be effective at the point guard, shooting guard, and small forward spots. The Kings are currently thin at small forward, so Temple could be a good option to fall back on in case Vlade Divac is unable to sign a wing this free agency.

In terms of his game, Temple was the closest thing to a 3-and-D guy last year with the Kings. His defense is never questioned as he was one of the better defenders on the team and his three-point shooting is solid as he made 39.2% of his shots from beyond the arc.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Temple deciding to stay with the Kings is good news for the team. Defense and versatility are always traits Sacramento can add to their roster, and Temple’s game is the epitome of that.

Also, Temple opting in means that the Kings’ youngsters will have their mentor for another season, which is low-key huge considering Temple has been a great veteran presence in his two years so far with the franchise.
