The Sacramento Kings have traded their second-round pick in exchange for two future second-round picks. This article will explain the details.

With the 37th pick in the NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Gary Trent Jr. out of the University of Duke. Or at least that is what Kings fans thought.

Sorry to any fans of the Kings and the Duke Blue Devils, but Trent’s tenure with the purple and white was short lived. Only moments after Sacramento drafted Trent, the news came out that the Kings have agreed with the Portland Trail Blazers to send Trent to the Rose City. In return, the Kings will receive two future second-round picks from the Blazers.

Right now, it is unknown which specific picks will go to Sacramento.

Final Thoughts

It is nice that Sacramento got some extra assets going forth, but if I were the Kings, I would have kept Trent. In his lone year at Duke, Trent showed he was a reliable shooter as he averaged 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.5% from the floor, 40.2% from the three-point line, and 87.6% from the free-throw stripe.

If he was able to translate his perimeter shooting to the NBA level, I thought he could have been a good asset for the Kings on the offensive end. Can never have enough shooters on the roster, in my opinion.

Overall, the Kings draft night seems to be over, unless they are able to trade back into the order. In the end, Sacramento was able to add a stud in Marvin Bagley III and two future second-round picks.
