How does Kawhi Leonard requesting a trade from the San Antonio Spurs impact the Sacramento Kings going forward?

The NBA offseason just got a lot crazier as not too long ago the reports spewed out that San Antonio Spurs’ star player Kawhi Leonard has requested a trade.

Although there is little chance that Leonard will land with the Sacramento Kings, his decision can still impact the purple and white.

How This Impacts The Kings?

Most of the public thought that if Leonard were to request a trade, his desired destination would be to play for the Los Angeles Lakers due to spending his childhood in Southern California.

If Leonard and the Lakers end up uniting together, this would be a potential nightmare for the Kings and their fans. Everyone in the Kings community knows that the Lakers are the franchise’s main arch nemesis. So having the Lakers pick up a top-tier player would immediately upgrade them into a playoff squad.

Not only would Leonard going to the Lakers immensely improve their team, but it could attract other stars like Paul George and LeBron James to head over to La La Land as well. If the Lakers ended up getting Leonard as well as George or James, it makes them an instant contender for the NBA Championship next season and going forth.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Kawhi requesting a trade is bad news for the Kings and their fans. Most likely, he is going to the Lakers and may not be the only star who heads there this summer as well. Which means it is another time in history where the Lakers are significantly better than the purple and white.
