NBA Draft prospect Michael Porter Jr. canceled his workout on June 15, but the Sacramento Kings are heading to Chicago to evaluate him medically.

NBA Draft night is less than a week away, and the Sacramento Kings are still working hard scouting the prospects.  The Kings currently have pick two and 37 overall on June 21.  They are in search of two young talents to add to their core.

One of the players they are considering in the first round is Michael Porter Jr.  Porter Jr. had a workout scheduled for Friday in Chicago, but he canceled due to injury.  Now the saga has taken another twist.  Shams Charania sent out a tweet about the news below.

No workout

Porter Jr. is not working out, though.  He is just going to be medically and physically evaluated by teams according to Charania.  Porter Jr. has significant medical questions, so June 15 is still an important day for his draft stock.  He underwent back surgery that limited him to three games this season, and now this hip injury is a concern.

The Kings will attend his evaluation according to Jason Jones.  Sacramento has been in on Porter Jr. since they started scouting this class.  He is the combo forward the Kings lack and one who figures to be a big-time scorer in the NBA if he reaches anywhere near his ceiling.

Friday will be an essential day for Porter Jr.  His draft stock could be tied directly to how he checks out.

Final thoughts

The Sacramento Kings will head to Chicago on June 15 to evaluate Michael Porter Jr. after all.  He will not hold a workout, but let interested teams check him medically.

Porter Jr. is hoping for a clean bill of health and to clear up any concerns interested teams have leading up to the draft.  Expect to see Porter Jr. selected early on June 21.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
