NBA Draft prospect Kevin Huerter had surgery on his right hand.  Could that injury cause him to fall to the Sacramento Kings in round two?

NBA Draft night takes place on June 21, and the Sacramento Kings are in full prep mode.   The team is deciding on what to do with the second overall pick.  The less publicized choice for Sacramento is number 37 overall.

Another option for that pick may have just become available.  Former Maryland wing Kevin Huerter was a fringe first-round choice, but recent news may see him fall into the second round.

Hand injury

Huerter injured his right hand and required surgery.  He will be out at least two months recovering.  That means Huerter will miss Summer League and valuable on-court time with his new team.

Where he falls?

Huerter slowly moved up draft boards after a combine that pushed him into the first round conversation.  Huerter shot 41.7 percent from 3-point range last season and was impressive during his sophomore campaign at Maryland.

The injury likely dings his draft stock slightly.  He also has small hands and just a 6’7.5 wingspan.  Huerter likely is picked somewhere between 20 and 40 in the 2018 NBA Draft.  There is a lot of wing talent in that range, and it will come down to team preference where Kevin Huerter hears his name called.

Final thoughts

NBA Draft prospect Kevin Huerter tore ligaments in his right hand that required surgery.  He will miss at least two months of action, but should not see any long-term effects from the injury.  Huerter continues to be in the fringe first-round conversation and could be an option for the Sacramento Kings at pick 37.  Stay tuned to see where he lands on June 21.
