Sacramento Kings: GM and owner travel to Spain to watch Luka Doncic
By Tyler Watts
Sacramento Kings GM Vlade Divac and owner Vivek Ranadive traveled to Madrid to watch Luka Doncic play on June 5.
The Sacramento Kings are facing a massive decision on June 21. Moving up in the lottery and gaining the second overall pick brings a lot of pressure on a franchise facing the longest playoff drought in the NBA. They need to nail this draft choice and secure a franchise-changing talent.
Divac and Ranadive hit the road
The organization is taking that task seriously. General Manager Vlade Divac and owner Vivek Ranadive traveled all the way to Spain to watch Real Madrid take on Gran Canaria on June 5. The pair wanted to see potential draft choice Luka Doncic up close and personal.
Doncic delivered a star performance in front of the Kings brass. He scored 14 points and chipped in seven rebounds and seven assists in Real Madrid’s 92-83 victory. Doncic displayed his playmaking chops and looked worthy of being the number one pick in the NBA Draft.

Doncic the pick?
Do not believe everything you hear heading into draft night. Reports will fly about wildly including things like the Kings are out on Doncic at pick two. That is clearly not true. The front office likely has not made a final decision on who to select yet and wisely so. They have roughly two weeks to do more work and figure out which player is going to an NBA superstar.

Sacramento should select either Luka Doncic or DeAndre Ayton. The Suns will likely take one of the two with the first overall pick, and the Kings should choose the other.
Luka Doncic is the best player in this draft class. Hopefully, he is playing his home games in Sacramento next season.
Final thoughts
The Sacramento Kings’ owner and top decision maker traveled to Spain to watch Luka Doncic’s game on June 5. The Kings are clearly in on Doncic at pick two and have a few more weeks to nail down the ideal player. Hopefully, Sacramento hits on the selection and ends their playoff drought next season.
