This article will focus on Bruno Caboclo’s season with the Sacramento Kings and what grade he deserves during his time with the organization.

For the last month, A Royal Pain has been dishing out articles in which we evaluate how each player on the Sacramento Kings performed during their 2017-2018 campaign. In this piece, we will analyze Bruno Caboclo who played a whopping ten games with the purple and white.

Offense

For the season, Caboclo averaged 2.6 points and 0.3 assists per contest. In my opinion, the averages for the 6’9″ forward are no big deal considering he only played ten minutes per outing.

What is concerning about Caboclo’s offensive performance was how low his shooting numbers were. During his Sacramento tenure, he made just 31% of his shots from the floor and 20% of his three-pointers. He did, however, make 83.3% of his shots from the free throw line.

Not only were the percentages low for Bruno, but the eye test showed me him missing a lot of makable shots as well. If Caboclo were to be with the Kings next season, his scoring needs to vastly improve, especially his jump shot.

Defense

Overall, Caboclo was a product of the Kings’ defense which was mostly bad. But with that being said, Bruno had his moments as he used his length and aggression to give his opponents fits on the hardwood.

The numbers defensively were just meh for Caboclo, in my mind. Again, this is him playing just ten minutes a game, but he did average 2.1 rebounds, 0.4 blocks, and 0.2 steals. Not only that, but he did record a defensive rating of 111.1 which was ranked ninth amongst his Sacramento teammates.

Final Thoughts

The Kings took a chance on Caboclo for the slim possibility that he could be a solid wing player for their future going forward. Based on my assessment, he did not impress at all. Offensively, he was hard to watch as he could not score a lick despite getting decent looks from the floor constantly. And as a defender, he had his moments but overall was inconsistent.

It seems like the Kings are going to continue to load up on young talent, which means guys on their current roster could be heading elsewhere in their basketball journeys going forth.

If I had to choose right now to keep Caboclo or not based on his ten games with the Kings, it would be a hard no for me. He showed minimal flashes of his potential and was more of a liability to the team than an asset.

Although I hope Bruno eventually becomes a good NBA player, I do not foresee that happening when he is on the Kings.
