Frank Mason thankful and excited to be part of the Sacramento Kings
By Tyler Watts
Frank Mason of the Sacramento Kings sent out a Tweet both reflecting back and looking forward. Plus, A look at Mason’s role on the Kings next season.
Frank Mason went from college player of the year to second-round draft choice to legitimate NBA point guard over the last calendar year. He just finished his rookie season with the Sacramento Kings. The year had some ups and downs, but overall was a positive first step in his professional basketball career.
On May 4, Mason sent out the following Tweet expressing both gratitude and excitement. Check it out.
Rookie year
My colleague, Rafe Wong, wrote Frank Mason’s season report card here. Rafe did a fantastic job outlining his play and some areas of both strength and necessary improvement in the piece.
The injuries are a bit concerning for Mason. He was limited to 52 games this season. Mason also tore the plantar fascia in both feet at different points. The 24-year-old’s feet are a concern next season. He needs to prove he can stay fully healthy and the foot issues are a thing of the past.

Role going forward
The Kings will tip their hand this offseason if they are fearful of Mason’s injuries. The young man displayed the talent to be a successful reserve point guard and playmaker in the NBA. His ceiling is a 20 minute a night role off the bench at the one, though. If the Kings add a point guard in the draft or free agency, it will be a replacement or at least competition for Mason.
My gut says Mason is the Kings backup point guard for many years to come. He needs to stay healthy and prove he can play 80 games a season for the organization to have complete faith in him, though.
Final thoughts
Frank Mason sent out a Tweet thanking the Sacramento Kings and expressing his excitement for next season. The team expects to be improved and take another step toward ending their playoff drought. Mason appears to be part of those plans as the backup point guard behind De’Aaron Fox.
Keep an eye on the additions the Kings make this offseason. If they do not add at his position, the organization is committed to Fox and Mason at the point. That appears to be their path as of this writing, but stay tuned.
