The Stockton Kings will be looking to take the G-League by storm next season. After a decade in Reno, the Sacramento Kings decided to move their G-League affiliate closer to home. The plans to relocate to Stockton, California were put in motion. April 17 became a big day in that relocation. Below is a Tweet from Sean Cunningham detailing the happenings.
What the news means?
The Stockton City Council voted, and it was a unanimous 5-0 victory for moving the team. I am excited to see the uniforms and logo when they come out. No word on a date for that yet. On May 24, the first Stockton Kings community day will take place featuring members of the Kings organization.
The news also means with the G-League squad will be closer to home. The Kings will likely allow players to get a game in more frequently as well. Players who are out of the rotation will benefit from playing significant minutes with the G-League squad. It will help them develop and improve their conditioning. The move to Stockton seems like a win for everyone but Reno. Hopefully, a new team comes to their city this offseason.
Final thoughts
The Stockton Kings are official after the Stockton City Council unanimously voted in favor of the relocation. There will be plenty more on the Kings new G-League team as the information becomes available. Stay tuned.
