The 2018 NBA Draft is approaching fast, and the league set the pre-lottery order on Friday.  The Kings lost a coin flip and currently sit seventh.

The 2018 NBA Draft is just over two months away, and the lottery is only a month away, but April 13 was an important day too.  The league flipped coins to break ties for any teams that finished the regular season with the same record.  The Sacramento Kings were part of this year’s process.

The Kings and the Chicago Bulls both finished with 27 wins in 82 games and only five teams had worse records this season.  Things did not go Sacramento way, though.  Below is a Tweet from Jonathan Givony regarding the result of the coin flip.

What it means

If the NBA did not have a draft lottery, the Kings would select seventh in the 2018 NBA Draft.  The lottery draws three teams so the worst Sacramento can pick is tenth.  As you can see, they have a 5.3 percent chance of picking first and 18.25 percent shot at jumping into the top three.  The Kings are in prime position to add another special talent to their young core.

Final thoughts

The Sacramento Kings lost the coin flip to the Chicago Bulls and now sit with the seventh overall pick heading into the 2018 NBA Draft lottery.  The Kings can now select in the top three or seventh through tenth.  Only in one of those six positions (without making a trade) and we will not know the exact spot until May 15.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
