The Sacramento Kings were unable to hang with the Dallas Mavericks tonight as they lost by a score of 103-97.

Game Summary

The Kings did not start the game well. In the first quarter, the purple and white shot just 37.5% from the floor and turned the ball over three times which resulted in them trailing the Mavericks 25-20 after one. Sacramento did a better job on offense in the second, but they still trailed 53-45 going into halftime.

Sacramento opened the second half struggling as their offense had trouble putting the ball in the bucket. In the first ten minutes of the third, the Kings shot just 39% from the floor. Fortunately for the Kings, they were able to go on a scoring run to end the third which had them trailing just 75-70 going into the fourth.

Once the final period started, the momentum Sacramento had in the third died out as the Mavericks were able to dissect the Kings’ defense while giving their offense fits. The Kings gave a gallant effort in the final minutes of the game, but it was not enough as the Mavericks were on top 103-97 when the clock hit triple zeros.

Final Thoughts

Even though I thought both teams played mediocre tonight, the Mavericks were no question the better team on the court as they outplayed the Kings in every quarter. For the youth of Sacramento, it was not a good night for them, especially for De’Aaron Fox.

For the night, Fox scored just five points while shooting 20% from the floor while his counterpart, Dennis Smith, had a good game for Dallas as he recorded 19 points and six assists for the night.

So overall, bad night for the Kings and their young talent. But to some Kings fans, this game would be considered a win due to the team being in a better position in the draft lottery. So there is that…

Next time the Kings hit the hardwood will be Thursday night when they will host the Indiana Pacers.
