Garrett Temple is a man who wears many hats for the Sacramento Kings.  He is a part lockdown defender, part playmaker, with a splash of little things that go unnoticed in the box score.  More importantly, Temple is the mentor for the young guards.  He and Buddy Hield seem to have a fantastic bond, and he helps all the young players with his leadership and character.  Those facts made Wednesday’s news a little more disappointing.  Below is a Tweet from Sean Cunningham detailing the Kings injury report for the March 22 game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The injury

Temple’s ankle sprain is not good news.  To be ruled out a full 24 hours before tipoff means the injury is likely severe.  It is unfortunate that with just ten games remaining Temple goes down.  In many ways, he is having the best season of his career at age 31.  Hopefully, a few days rest is all Temple needs, and he returns on Sunday to face the Boston Celtics.

Who steps up?

You will notice that fellow guard Bogdan Bogdanovic is also on the injury report, so if both players are out the Kings could be light in the backcourt.  I suspect Bogi returns after practicing on Wednesday, but keep an eye on his status.

I suspect the red-hot Hield takes the most significant leap in both playing time and production with Temple sidelined.  Expect Buddy Love to play over 30 minutes and run his streak of 20 plus point games to five on Thursday against the Hawks.

Final thoughts

Garrett Temple sprained his left ankle at practice on Wednesday and is out of Thursday game against Atlanta.  Stay tuned for any injury updates as they become available.  Hopefully, Temple returns to the court this season and continues setting the example for the young Kings.
