The Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, and Cleveland Cavaliers recently completed a trade which resulted in the Kings acquiring Iman Shumpert and more.

The Sacramento Kings made a splash right before the NBA Trade Deadline expired. According to ESPN’s Adrain Wojnarowski, the Kings, Utah Jazz, and Cleveland Cavaliers completed a three-way trade. The aftermath of the deal resulted in the Cavaliers acquiring Rodney Hood and George Hill, the Jazz receiving Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose, and the Kings obtaining Iman Shumpert, Joe Johnson, and the Cavaliers’ (originally Miami Heat’s) 2020 second-round pick.

What Does This Mean For The Kings?

As for immediate impact, the Kings acquired a defensive-oriented player in Iman Shumpert. Since being drafted in 2011, Shumpert has displayed a defensive motor which has made him a solid asset to his teams.

The Kings right now are horrid on defense, so hopefully, Shumpert can provide some production on that side of the ball and his play can potentially be contagious amongst his new teammates.

As for Joe Johnson, according to Yahoo Sport’s Chris Mannix, there is the sense that he will be bought out by the Kings which will make him a free agent once that process is complete.

The trade also gives the Kings a 2020 second-round pick from the Cavaliers which gives them an extra draft asset to use either in the draft or in a future trade.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Kings dealt up George Hill and in return received Iman Shumpert and a second-round pick in 2020.
