De’Aaron Fox suffered an ankle sprain on Feb. 5 against the Chicago Bulls.  He left the game and did not return.  Continue reading for more information about the injury.

De’Aaron Fox finally appeared to be hitting his stride in the NBA.  My colleague Eric Clark wrote about how Fox is evolving and becoming the Sacramento Kings star player just last week.  You can read that article here.  That is why Monday’s game was a bit of a gut punch to the entire organization and fan base.  Below is a video from NBC Sports Kings that they posted on their Twitter.

What the news means

Jason Jones later reported that Fox sprained his left ankle and X-rays were negative.  He did not return to the game, but there has been no official word on if he will miss further time.  The Kings do not play again until Friday, so hopefully, a few days rest has Fox back at full strength.

Who steps up

Sacramento will be short on point guards if De’Aaron Fox misses time.  George Hill will be the only healthy true point guard.  Ancillary ball-handling duties will fall primarily in the laps of Garrett Temple and Bogdan Bogdanovic.  It could give the rookie Bogdanovic a chance to expand his game with more touches, but it is never good news that Fox is out.  Stay tuned for updates on the injury as they become available.

Final thoughts

It was a real gut punch watching De’Aaron Fox limp to the locker room.  Fox had me excited for the rest of the season as he was making strides and slowly evolving into the Kings’ franchise player.  An ankle injury should only be a temporary setback, but not something any fans wants to see.  Keep an eye out for any information on the ankle.
