Dave Joerger is not on the sidelines coaching the Jan. 30 game against the New Orleans Pelicans.  We look at his injury and projected return.

Dave Joerger is in his second season as Sacramento Kings Head Coach.  The team has 47 wins in that time, and Coach Joerger often cops the blame for that.  One thing is for certain, he puts forth a ton of effort and cares about his squad.  That is why the incident in Sunday’s game was so scary.  Below is a Tweet from Hoop Ball Kings that captured it all.

What the news means

Joerger did not return to Sunday’s game and had to undergo a complete medical workup in recent days which came back normal.  The team held him out tonight against the Pelicans as a precaution, but he is expected to return to the sidelines within seven days according to all reports.

Who steps up?

Elston Turner took over the head coaching duties against both the Spurs and Pelicans.  He figures to be the man in charge until Joerger is healthy enough to resume his role.  For those who do not know, Turner has 21 years of NBA coaching experiencing including working five NBA franchises.  He also played in the league for eight seasons.

Final thoughts

It was a scary seen seeing Coach Joerger go down on the sidelines.  It is fantastic news to hear he is okay and that it was just a case of lightheadedness.  Hopefully, he can return on Friday as the Kings host the defending champion Golden State Warriors in nationally televised game.  If not, the team should be in good hands with Coach Turner at the helm.
