The Sacramento Kings travel to face the Orlando Magic on Jan. 23.  This article previews the matchup between Skal Labissiere and Aaron Gordon.

The Sacramento Kings continue their six-game road trip as they face the Orlando Magic tonight.  The Kings are playing on the second of a back-to-back and have lost eight consecutive games coming into this contest.

The two teams play just twice this season.  Tonight is the first meeting with the Magic coming to Sacramento in March to conclude the series.

The Kings played last night in Charlotte against the Hornets.  Kemba Walker led his team with 26 points and nine assists to a 112-107 victory over Sacramento last night.  Below is a highlight video of that game.

Today, we examine the top storyline of tonight’s game and some final thoughts about the Jan. 23 contest between the Kings and Magic.

Labissiere vs. Gordon

Orlando Magic power forward Aaron Gordon is in the midst of a breakout season.  At 22 years old, it is all finally coming together for Gordon.  He is averaging 18.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 3-pointers made, 0.9 steals, 0.7 blocks, and 1.8 turnovers per game this season.  Gordon’s transformation into a go-to scoring threat and league average 3-point shooter has vaulted him to another level.

Skal Labissiere in many ways hopes to become Aaron Gordon.  One year younger, Labissiere needs to show he is an average 3-point shooter who can make over two per game.  He needs to play that stretch four who can defend on the wings and the block.  That is why it is an exciting matchup this evening.  Kings fans hope Labissiere can become an Aaron Gordon type next season.  Monitor the battle this evening.  I have hope for Labissiere this season especially with his recent performances while playing significant minutes.

Final thoughts

The Kings head to Orlando for the second of a back-to-back on Jan. 23.  The contest features two almost certain lottery teams, and the game could have huge implications who receives the coveted number one overall pick.  That alone should have you tuning in and cheering on the Kings.  Enjoy the game.
