Bogdan Bogdanovic is quickly becoming the Sacramento Kings secret weapon. The team is allowing him to expand his game and play a more integral role each night. Bogdanovic is, in turn, rewarding them with fantastic across the board production. Today, we will examine why he is the key to a Kings victory over the LA Clippers this afternoon.
Last time out, the Kings hosted the Clippers. Lou Williams lit up the Golden 1 Center for 30 points in route to a 121-115 Clippers victory on Thursday. Below is a highlight video of that game.
Defending Sweet Lou
Lou Williams is on an incredible scoring run. In his last 11 games, Williams has scored at least 21 points in all of them including seven times with 30 plus points. His hot stretch also includes a 40 and a 50 point game. The perennial sixth man of the year candidate is knocking down everything right now.

Bogdan Bogdanovic will draw the assignment of slowing down Sweet Lou. Williams scored 30 points on Thursday, but it took him 24 field goal attempts and 35 minutes on the court. Bogdanovic needs to be up in Williams’ face the entire afternoon. Bogdanovic is a better defender than he gets credit for and the Serbian should be able to slow down the scorching hot Williams.
Creating and facilitating
Some of the Kings most effective sets are with Bogdanovic taking the helm and running the show. He has proven in the last eight games that he can be an efficient passer and playmaker. Bogdanovic did not get as many cracks with George Hill returning to the lineup on Thursday, and that is a mistake. They need to put the ball in the 25 year old’s hands more not less. I know Hill is a veteran and has years of point guard experience, but Bogdanovic is the future for Sacramento. The future benefits should be more critical in the second half of the season for the Kings.
Scoring
Bogdanovic set a career high with 22 points on Thursday against the Clippers, and he may need to surpass that this afternoon. I expect him to lead the Kings in scoring. If he plays 33 minutes (and he should), I could see Bogdanovic netting 25-30 points. That would go a long way in helping Sacramento secure a road victory over LA.
Final thoughts
Bogdan Bogdanovic is going to be asked to carry a significant load this evening, but the Kings’ rookie should up to the task. I grow more and more impressed with him in each passing game. Expect an outstanding performance from the wing tonight. Please tune in and enjoy the show.
