George Hill misses second straight game with personal issue

SACRAMENTO, CA - JANUARY 02: George Hill
SACRAMENTO, CA - JANUARY 02: George Hill

George Hill has missed the last two Sacramento Kings games with a personal issue.  Today, we discuss what the news means and who steps up with Hill out.

George Hill has started all 33 games he has played for the Sacramento Kings this season, but he remained out on Monday night against the Spurs.  It was the second consecutive game Hill missed with a personal issue.  He is currently away from the team.

What the news means

Hill is not with the team as they played two straight home games.  His wife is expecting a baby soon, and reports say that is why he is out.  The Kings play again on Tuesday in Los Angeles against the Lakers, and I would consider Hill doubtful as of this writing.  No word at this point when he returns to the lineup.  Stay tuned for updates as they become available.

Who steps up?

Hill missing two straight games has pushed rookie De’Aaron Fox into the lead point guard role, and the significant minutes he should be playing.  Fox has played 35 and 30 minutes in the two games and had 29 points, 17 assists, and seven rebounds combined.  Expect Fox to continue to get run as he continues his development.

Frank Mason should also be nearing a return and Hill’s absence would open up a handy 20-25 minute role for the rookie second-round pick.

Final thoughts

George Hill missed Monday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.  It was his second straight contest on the sidelines with a personal issue.  Sacramento plays Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday this week, so Hill could easily miss more time.  Stay tuned.
