The Sacramento Kings host the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 2 in a regular season game.  This article previews that game from a Kings’ perspective.

The Sacramento Kings continue their homestand against the Charlotte Hornets this evening.  The contest is the first of two meeting between the teams this season.  The Kings travel to Charlotte on Jan. 22.  Sacramento is looking to get back on track and secure win number 13 tonight.

Last time out, the Kings hosted Marc Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies.  It was a lousy night in Sacramento that included a Frank Mason injury and a 36 point first quarter that set the Grizzlies up for a 114-96 victory on Sunday.  Below is a highlight video of that game.

Without further ado, here is the top thing to watch for tonight and some final thoughts on the contest between the Sacramento Kings and the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 2.

More Bogdan

The Charlotte Hornets are a solid defensive team that should provide a stern test for the Kings.  The Hornets rate 11th in defensive rating and bring a veteran group that still has hopes of the playoffs despite its slow start.  Sacramento needs to improve its recent play, and Bogdan Bogdanovic can be the catalyst behind that.  With Frank Mason out and De’Aaron Fox questionable, the Kings will need a playmaker and someone who can switch on to Kemba Walker and Nic Batum on the defensive end.  Enter Bogdanovic, Sacramento’s versatile weapon that is finally finding his footing in the NBA.  He has 37 points, 16 assists, four steals, and seven 3-pointers made in his last three games combined.  Bogdan Bogdanovic needs to make a significant contribution if the Kings are going to win Tuesday’s game.

Final thoughts

The Jan. 2 game between the Sacramento Kings and the Charlotte Hornets figures to be a hard-fought battle between two teams looking to improve after poor starts to the season.  The Hornets have plenty of recognizable names on their roster and are expecting to win this evening.  Hopefully, the Kings can play spoiler and defend their home court.  Enjoy the game.
