Vince Carter returned to the Sacramento Kings rotation on Dec. 27 for the first time since a rib injury sidelined him for three games.

Vince Carter came back to the Sacramento Kings’ rotation on Dec. 27 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Carter sat out the previous three games with a rib injury.  He was active on Tuesday but never saw the court.  Presumably, the Kings only wanted to play the 40-year-old in one game of the back-to-back.  It worked as Carter went for 24 points, five rebounds, four 3-pointers made, three assists, one steal and one block and he was a crucial part of a 109-95 Kings victory.  Below is a highlight video of that game.

What the news means

Carter played 30 minutes and received a standing ovation from the home crowd after a stellar performance.  That should say Vinsanity is fully healthy.  He should be available on Friday against the Suns and going forward.

Is Carter part of the rotation?

When fully fit, Carter usually plays about a 15-minute nightly role for the Kings.  He should continue to see that run.  If Sacramento slips further from contention, Carter could sit out in favor of younger developing talents.  I suspect he remains part of the rotation for at least the next month health permitting.

Final thoughts

Vince Carter returned for the Sacramento Kings and made a statement against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.  His stellar play helped the Kings earn a victory and earned him a standing ovation from the crowd.  It was fantastic to see Carter back healthy and still balling out at age 40.  Hopefully, he can continue to play well off the Kings bench.
