The Sacramento Kings have released their new “City Edition” uniform which honors the organization’s previous and current squads.

Reports have been out that each NBA team will have their own “City Edition” uniform to rock for the 2017-2018 season, and the Kings have finally released the full-on look for their new threads.

Listed down below is a tweet posted on the Sacramento Kings’ Twitter account showing what the team’s city uniform will look like. For a full detailed look, click on this link.

Detailing the Threads

As one can see, the design consists of the current logos that the Kings currently wear, the team’s lion badge being the most noticeable, while having the colorway of what the team wore in 1985, the first year the organization arrived in Sacramento.

The motivation behind this design was for the Kings to commemorate their team’s history while representing the modern era as well. Here is a quote that was posted in the team’s media release pertaining to the new uniform.

"“Thirty-two years ago, the Kings transformed Sacramento and created a community of basketball fans that are unmatched around the NBA,” said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. “The City Uniforms look back at the team that forever changed Sacramento, with new emblems for the next generation of fan and the future of our team.” -Sacramento Kings"

My Evaluation

My assessment of the new threads is that I like them. To me, it shows a healthy mix of the franchise’s Sacramento history as well as their modern look right now. The design is also a nice change of pace compared to their current uniforms. I love the Kings rocking purple, white, and black, but it can be refreshing occasionally to see them rep the vintage powder blues.

If I had to choose a favorite part of the uniform, it has to be the bottoms. The shorts have a nice clean and vintage look to them which never goes out of style. Well, at least in my opinion.

Are they going to be available in stores!?

Final Thoughts

It is unknown when the team will rep this new uniform, but when they do, it is likely they will play in them on their new “Sactown” court design which is suppose to match the “City Edition” theme.
