The Sacramento Kings and their fans should feel disrespected by not making FanSided’s Fandom 250 list. Continue reading for a plethora of reasons why.
The Sacramento Kings have not had a ton of on-court success in recent seasons. It has been 11 seasons since Sacramento has played a playoff series. The Kings have drafted in the top-ten in nine straight drafts. You get the picture, but that does not stop the team from having a loud and proud fan base. #SacramentoProud
That is why I was shocked when FanSided’s Fandom 250 came out for 2017, and the Kings were left off. 12 NBA teams made the countdown, but not Sacramento. Eastern Mississippi Community College checked in at 247 and no disrespect to them, but the Kings have to have a more significant and more impactful fan base. We all need to band together and let the people at the Fandom 250 know that they made a mistake. The Sacramento Kings should be included in the list every year.
Attendance figures
According to ESPN, the Kings rank 14th in home attendance this season at just over 17,500 people per game. That is more than two teams that made the Fandom 250. If you look at the percentage of capacity Sacramento is third behind just the Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers. If those numbers do not scream tremendous fan support than what will?
Best arena in the NBA
The Golden 1 Center which opened last season is the best home in the league. The facility is state of the art, and it houses plenty amazing features that other places just cannot match. Their website features a ton of information about the arena. To make a long story short, it is fantastic.
Most exciting team of the century
The Kings kicked off the 2000’s with the most exciting team in the NBA and that group still stands out today. Anchored by Chris Webber, Jason Williams, and current GM Vlade Divac, those Sacramento teams brought a smile to every basketball fans face. The fans hanging around from that group alone should have earned us a spot in the Fandom 250.
Final Thoughts
FanSided did a fantastic job with the 2017 Fandom 250, but I am disappointed the Sacramento Kings did not make the list. The organization and fan base deserved inclusion, but next year we will come back with a vengeance and earn our rightful place. Until then, keep cheering on the Kings.
