The Sacramento Kings officially began their season tonight as they faced off against the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately, the purple and white lost to the Rockets by a score of 105-100, dropping their seasonal record to 0-1.
Tonight’s contest was an exciting one to watch, especially if one is a Kings fan. With the purple and white in the beginning stages of a massive rebuild, it was expected that the team was going to play their young and high-ceiling talent a lot for tonight’s game.
There were a lot of players who played well tonight, but only a few of them stood out above the rest. These players were Skal Labissiere, Willie Cauley-Stein, and De’Aaron Fox.
Dave Joerger decided to start Labissiere and Cauley-Stein for tonight’s game, and it ended up being a great decision. For Labissiere, he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Cauley-Stein recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
For Fox, he made his NBA debut tonight and it was a dandy to watch. The newly named “Kentucky Comet” showcased his speed to the NBA, and as a result, he scored 14 points and distributed 5 assists for the night.
Garrett Temple also deserves a shoutout for tonight’s contest as well. In the game, Temple was excellent on the defensive end as he was the consensus anchor for the Kings’ solid defensive outing.
Throughout the night, the Kings and Rockets were very close on the scoreboard. But in the end, the Rockets ended up being victorious due to the stellar performance by James Harden. Harden struggled early to score points, but he still utilized his abilities as a playmaker to keep the Rockets competitive in the game. He finished the match with 26 points and 8 assists.
The Kings’ season opener was a great one to watch. The young talent of Sacramento shined, the veterans were solid, and Vince Carter made two freakin three-pointers!
Next time the Kings hit the hardwood will be in Dallas when they face off against the Mavericks. Exciting times are coming for the Sacramento Kings!
