Zach Randolph had a run in with the law last month, and his first court date happened on August 31.  Here are the details.

The Sacramento Kings signed Zach Randolph to a two-year deal this offseason.  The signing hinged on his previous relationship with Coach Joerger and the veteran influence he could bring to this young Kings squad.

Fast forward to last month, and Z-Bo was involved in a California incident and arrested.  You can read our article about the alleged crime here.

On August 31, Randolph had his first court date in the case.  He faces misdemeanor marijuana possession and resting arrest charges stemming from the incident.  This was a reduction from the previous charges.  His next court date is September 14.

Possible suspension

Randolph could face a suspension for his arrest even if he there is no conviction.  It would not be the first time Z-Bo found himself in legal hot water and suspended.  He sat out two games in 2009 after a DUI arrest.  It is too soon to speculate on the length of any suspension, but we will have more information on this developing story at a later date.

Final Thoughts

Zach Randolph’s legal situation is still in its early stages, but facing two criminal charges is never an ideal situation.  I will leave that matter alone and discuss how the Kings will fare if Z-Bo misses any time.

Sacramento is in a stable position in the frontcourt with or without Randolph.  They have Skal Labissiere and Vince Carter who can eat the majority of the minutes at the four.  Throw in Willie Cauley-Stein and Kosta Koufos at the five with Georgios Papagiannis in mop up duty, and the Kings big men rotation is healthy.  Randolph has a legal situation to deal with, and I hope has a prompt resolution.  We will bring more information to you as it becomes available.
